Whitbread said today (April 1) it will open a new 210-room Premier Inn hotel in Glasgow by 2012.
The property near the city centre in West Nile Street is currently a vacant former office block.
Whitbread and its development partners will pump £10.5m into the conversion to a budget hotel which will create 50 jobs when open.
The company said it was now investing £42.65m in new hotels in Scotland.
Besides the new Glasgow property, eight other hotels are being built or are in the pipeline.
The properties are in Dumbarton, Dalkeith, Edinburgh (two), Edinburgh Airport, Falkirk, Inverness (also two).
The hotels will be open between autumn this year and spring 2012.
John Bates, head of acquisitions for Whitbread Hotels, said: "Premier Inn is the most successful budget hotel operator in the UK today and we want to ensure that ongoing success by investing in key locations - West Nile Street is one of these.
"We have identified significant opportunities to bring the quality and value of the Premier Inn proposition to a number of new target locations across Scotland.
"This latest investment is an essential part of that programme."
