Geneva has beaten Moscow to become home to the world's most expensive hotel rooms, according to hotels.com
Part of the Expedia group, the hotel booking site revealed its latest Hotel Price Index, placing the Swiss city in top place, followed by Monte Carlo, New York and Moscow.
The average price of a room in Geneva was £155 between July and September 2010, compared to £152 in Monte Carlo and £151 in New York. All three cities showed a positive increase year on year.
In the same period last year Moscow claimed to spot, but the city fared worse during the most recent quarter, with the average price per room per night falling by 9%, from £156 in Q2 2009 to £142 in Q2 2010.
Eastern European destinations also fared poorly, with Riga's average rate dropping by 7% during the same period, while Tallinn, Warsaw and Budapest fell 12%, 1% and 9% respectively.
The biggest drop was seen in Abu Dhabi, however, which saw prices plunge by 35% over the period, to an average room price of £113 per night.
Despite the gloom in some regions, Alison Couper, global communications director at Hotels.com,said "room rates across the world began to cease falling, and in many cases began the long road to recovery" in the second quarter of 2010.
