WORK HAS STARTED on a £13 million, 16-month project to merge Birmingham Airport's two terminals, as part of plans to increase passenger capacity. Airport chief executive Paul Kehoe said: "Our goal for 2010 is to improve the passenger experience and improve our overall efficiency. Over the next 10 years we will invest £200 million in our facilities, which will help us achieve our vision of doubling our passenger numbers by 2018."
Birmingham was this month due to complete another £1.5 million project to merge its four control rooms into a single facility.
"These projects will enable us to come out of the current downturn in a stronger position to attract new customers and showcase Birmingham as the region's global gateway and show that it's a viable alternative to London and Manchester," said Kehoe. The transformation is due to be completed in May 2011.
