GATWICK AIRPORT has outlined its 10-year green plan, including a bid to cut its carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2020, compared to 2009 levels.
Over the next 10 years, the airport also plans to reduce its energy consumption by 20 per cent (compared to 2009 levels) and its water consumption by 20 per cent (compared to this year).
By 2020 Gatwick has also pledged to stop sending waste to landfill, install an electric-car recharge network for passengers and staff, and generate power via renewable sources. The airport achieved the Carbon Trust Standard at the beginning of August.
Organisations are awarded the Carbon Trust Standard for measuring, managing and reducing their carbon emissions.
