The majority of business travellers are “more likely” to purchase extra airline services if presented with the information in an NDC-based display.
A study from IATA showed 75 per cent would buy extras such as meals, in-flight wifi and seat upgrades when viewing their options through NDC.
NDC is a travel industry-supported programme launched by IATA which will give airlines the ability to distribute all their content through third parties and “enhance” communications between carriers and agents.
The study of around 1,500 business travellers also showed that 63 per cent of business travellers would “find it helpful” to receive promotional offers from airlines via text messages.
Some 68% “would be comfortable” with an airline or agent informing them about the availability of optional offers via text message.
IATA’s senior VP of financial and distribution services, Aleks Popovich, said: “When presented with the opportunity, air travelers welcome the comprehensive shopping information and graphic visual displays that the NDC Standard enables.
“A substantial majority also look forward to the opportunity to be recognised and to receive personalised offers,” he added.
The study was based on survey responses of approximately 5,000 business and leisure passengers in eight countries, at least 30% of them were business travellers.
