British Airways is the latest airline to begin installing in-flight wifi on its long-haul aircraft.
The carrier says it plans to connect 118 aircraft over the next two years, although so far only three aeroplanes currently offer the service.
BA has partnered with Visa to offer passengers on connected flights an hour’s free browsing and streaming ‘for a limited time’. Customers will be advised if their flight is on a connected aircraft when they board, with internet becoming available “approximately ten minutes after take-off when the aircraft has passed 10,000 feet”, according to BA.
Wifi comes in two packages – the ‘Browse’ option supports internet surfing, social media and messaging services, while ‘Stream’ offers a faster connection for streaming music and films on services such as Netflix. Packages can be purchased for one hour, four hours, or the full flight.
