Spanish airline Air Europa will introduce a fee for bookings made through global distribution systems (GDSs) in July and might pull its content from the Sabre GDS, the carrier said in a notice to travel agencies this week.
In the notice, as reported by Italian B2B tourism publication Travel Quotidiano, Air Europa said the GDS distribution fee would start on 1 July. It will be set at the level of €12, £11, US$14.50, or 11 Swiss francs per one-way journey, depending on the point of origin. A roundtrip booking within the EU, for example, would carry a €24 fee in the GDS.
Air Europa is encouraging agencies and TMCs to participate in its direct channels to avoid the GDS fee, according to the report.
The report also said Air Europa content would no longer be available through Sabre starting in July, although it is continuing negotiations with the company.
A Sabre spokesperson told BTN: "We continue to engage constructively with Air Europa to reach a commercially sustainable outcome that preserves choice, transparency, and operational simplicity across the travel ecosystem."
Turkish Airlines last year acquired a 26 per cent stake in Air Europa with a €300 million investment. Turkish Airlines recently had its own dispute with Sabre, pulling its content from Sabre in September 2024, but the carrier reached an agreement to return its content to the Sabre GDS last year.
