Energy industry specialist Wings Travel Management is setting up an operation in Mozambique as clients line up to take advantage of the country’s gas reserves.
Mozambique in southeast Africa has more than 85 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, which were discovered in 2011.
Italian energy firm Eni plans to start drilling and processing gas in Mozambique after it completed a deal to invest $7 billion in the country in June.
Tony Sofianos, CEO of Wings, said: “The gas discovery and potential exploration in Mozambique is very exciting for the energy sector.
“Several of our clients, who we service in other parts of the world, are finalising investments and contracts in order to begin operating in Mozambique.
“Wings is therefore setting up its own presence in Mozambique in order to give the high level of travel and logistics support that these companies will need.”
Wings said that it concentrates on “establishing wholly owned and controlled operations due to the nature of our clients’ complex and often hazardous requirements”.
Frank Palapies, chief operating officer – Africa and the Middle East, added: “This is a distinct point of difference to our competitors.
“Most other multi-national TMCs do not own their operations in developing and high-risk markets - they use partner networks or franchisees.”
