UK-based travel management supplier Portman Travel has agreed in principle to purchase travel management firm P&O Travel. The acquisition is expected to boost Portman's business by 30%.
Portman director of marketing and development Bob Govern told abtn: "We are adding a distinctive brand but are still in the consulting process. We have to be mindful of the legislation surrounding the acquisition so we are unable to discuss the impact on jobs at this stage.
"I'm hoping that the consulting process will be over by the end of the month and we have earmarked October 31 as the day when we hope more information will be made available.
"P&O is a strong travel brand and brings lots of strengths to Portman," Govern revealed.
The company said it has a strong track record of integrating other travel management companies into its portfolio including AA Business Travel, John Cory Travel and Travelforce.
Both P&O Travel and Portman Travel are shareholders of Radius, the global network of travel management specialists. The acquisition is expected to benefit customers by combining the Radius partnership into a larger UK entity.
The company said: "the enlarged business will be able to deliver greater scale, international reach and buying power."
