Non-profit movement <Trave/Scrum> is organising a
global ‘ideation hackathon’ to give the travel and tourism community a platform
for building solutions to the coronavirus crisis.
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC),
the Covid-19 pandemic has placed 10 per cent of the world’s GDP and 330 million
jobs at risk, with a third of roles already lost due to the financial impact of
the crisis.
<Trave/Scrum> said its hackathon, to be held online
from 11-14 June, is aimed at providing a platform for people in the travel and
tourism community to showcase their ideas to improve the world of travel of
tomorrow and be recognised in the process. Participants will be asked to put
forward their recommendations for projects in the areas of Health &
Hygiene, Travel & Experiences and Sustainability & Relief.
Business travel and meetings consultancy Festive Road is
supporting the initiative, with Aurelie Krau taking a lead role in the EMEA
region and Katie Virtue becoming part of the operations team for the Americas.
During the hackathon, the company will deliver a workshop on the Permissible
Travel Framework and is encouraging people from the business travel sector to take
a number of steps to support the movement, including:
- Providing their API if they have content they
would like to make available to developers;
- Becoming an advocate to support the effort and
contribute to the outcomes of innovations by providing in-kind perks or
financial support;
- Becoming a business travel mentor to advise
participating teams;
- Becoming a participant in the hackathon.
Speaking about the initiative, Florian Mesny, co-founder of <Trave/Scrum>,
said: “We want to mobilise talented people, mentors, companies, experts to
#JoinTheScrum and take action. The event kicks off a larger overarching
movement to rethink, rebuild, reinvent the travel and tourism industry.”
