Germany’s ministry of health has changed the rules relating
to the evidence travellers arriving in the country must provide and the way countries are designated according to the Covid risk they pose.
From midnight on 1 August, all people over the age of 12 arriving
in the country regardless of the means of transport by which they arrive must provide
evidence of a negative test result, proof of vaccination or proof of recovery
upon entry.
The ministry said, “From this point in time, due to the
increasing worldwide spread of easily transferable SARS-CoV-2 variants
(especially the delta variant), a general obligation to provide evidence
applies.”
It has also dropped the category of “simple” risk from its
list, leaving just high-risk areas and areas of variants of concern.
The ministry said, “The omission of the category of simple
risk areas does not mean that there is no longer any risk for these areas.
Rather, there is a relevant increased risk of infection worldwide.”
Anyone who has been to an area with a variant of concern –
currently just Brazil and Uruguay - cannot avoid quarantine of 14 days even if
they have been fully vaccinated.
