Canada is to remove the requirement for fully vaccinated visitors to take a pre-entry test from 1 April.
The Canadian government said the new rule would apply to all vaccinated travellers entering the country by air, land or water. Currently, vaccinated visitors to Canada are required to take a pre-entry test.
Rules for unvaccinated passengers will remain the same and they will continue to have to take a pre-entry Covid test after 1 April.
Jean-Yves Duclos, Canada’s minister of health, said: “As vaccination levels and healthcare system capacity improve, we will continue to consider further easing of measures at the borders - and when to adjust those measures - to keep the people in Canada safe.”
Air Canada welcomed the relaxation of Covid restrictions as “excellent news for the entire travel and tourism industry”.
David Rheault, vice-president, government and community relations, at Air Canada, added: “The end of pre-departure testing will provide travellers with more certainty, allowing them to plan their next trip with more confidence and without the worry of incurring additional costs.”
