Shuttle service to continue until after Christmas
Eurostar warned today (December 23) that a return to normal service may be weather dependent.
The cross-channel rail service was brought to a stand-still over the weekend by severe weather conditions in northern France.
Trains started running again yesterday, but passengers today are still experiencing delays.
A shuttle service is currently running between the UK, Paris and Brussels, with passengers boarding on a first come first served basis.
People planning to travel from St Pancras International today have been told not to come to the station until after 1pm, as the trains are full until that time.
This shuttle service will continue tomorrow and on boxing day (November 26). There will be no services on Christmas day.
Normal services will not resume until after Christmas, but Eurostar hopes to clear the backlog of passengers by tomorrow.
A spokesperson told ABTN: "Today again the terminal is busy but the trains are going and moving, so we've got a lot of people getting to their destination and we're much more confident about ensuring people get home before Christmas now."
Eurostar has blamed the cancellations and delays on severe weather conditions in northern France.
Eurostar said: "As we suspected, the acute weather conditions in northern France have caused the disruption.
"Every year we carry out a ‘winterisation' programme of the entire fleet which to date has successfully protected our trains."
But this year the programme proved to be inadequate, with Eurostar having to improve the the snow screens and snow shields in the power cars of the trains.
These modification are now complete, confirmed Eurostar.
Passengers looking to travel today and tomorrow should check the eurostar website for updates.
