Ground transport aggregator Mozio has launched Zero by Mozio, a platform exclusively for the booking of low- and zero-emission taxis and transfers.
The tool currently covers more than 100 cities worldwide and is expected to reach 250 by the year’s end.
Chief commercial officer Emil Gustavsson describes the tool as a green mobility platform for the corporate and leisure industries featuring only electric vehicles and incorporating offsetting.
Zero by Mozio can be integrated with existing booking tools or white-labelled and used as a standalone tool via TMCs or provided direct to corporates. Mozio already provides ground transport services and technology to a number of major leisure travel companies as well as several global TMCs.
“We’re a key tech player and a big influencer in the ground transport space. It’s our environmental responsibility to provide this platform,” says Gustavsson.
All prices include the cost of offsetting the emissions associated with the production and consumption of electricity used in charging vehicles.
“We can’t yet get down to the granularity of how much of the electricity used is green energy or how much electricity is used in charging a vehicle, but we’d love to get that level of detail within the next year,” Gustavsson explains.
In the long term, Mozio plans to add rail options where they are 100 per cent electric-powered as well as “anything else that’s electric-powered on the ground”. That could mean trams, e-bikes or even e-scooters, for example.
Although electric vehicle supply remains fairly limited, says Gustavsson, its network of providers serve “most major business destinations” and “positions the company perfectly for the tipping points that’s coming in the next few years when electric vehicles become cheaper than traditional cars”.
He adds: “We can get partners up and running really quickly on the platform – it takes two to three days.”
Currently, many of the cities in which it offers electric transfers only have premium vehicle availability, but “we want to scale up and be able to offer both premium and cheaper options in most destinations.”
A small electric car is responsible for around half the emissions of a similarly sized petrol powered car, while a larger electric car emits around a quarter of that of a comparable petrol powered vehicle, says Mozio.
A search on the site for a ride a week ahead saw the cost of a Green Standard car – a Nissan Leaf or similar – as €67 between Heathrow Airport and central London. The cost for a Green Premium vehicle – a Tesla Model S or similar – was €88.
