American Airlines plans to add seven international routes next summer, including three to new European destinations.
The carrier will launch daily flights from Philadelphia to Porto, Portugal, on 28 March; Vienna on 6 May; and Reykjavik on 27 May, marking American’s first service to the Icelandic capital since 2019. The Vienna service will operate beyond the summer season until early January.
The Porto and Vienna routes will be operated with Airbus A321XLR aircraft, while the Reykjavik service will use Airbus A321neo aircraft.
American will also add four daily routes to cities already served by the airline:
- Chicago–Tokyo Narita, launching on 19 March and operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft
- New York JFK–Amsterdam, launching on 28 March with Airbus A321XLR aircraft
- New York JFK–Nice, launching on 6 May with Airbus A321XLR aircraft
- Charlotte–Barcelona, launching on 27 May with Boeing 777-200ER aircraft
All four services will operate daily, according to the carrier.
From 28 March, American will also increase its New York JFK–London Heathrow service to four daily flights, operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring its new Flagship Suite seats. The carrier also plans to bring forward the launch of two returning summer routes, Charlotte–Paris and Miami–Milan, to 4 March.
"These new routes expand access to growing commercial corridors, increase premium transatlantic travel options, and provide greater schedule flexibility in some of the world's most important business markets, including London, Amsterdam and Tokyo," American SVP of global sales Lucas Martin said in an email to BTN.
American’s announcement comes days after United unveiled 10 international destination additions for its summer 2027 schedule.
