The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for parts of the UK as Storm Eleanor is forecast to bring winds of up to 80 miles per hour on Tuesday night and Wednesday, potentially causing disruption to transportation services.
Paul Gundersen, Met Office chief forecaster, says Eleanor is expected to bring spells of rain and strong gusts of wind, as well as the possibility of snow in higher elevations in Scotland. He warns that severe gales and the threat of flooding have the potential to cause travel disruption, advising travellers to “check your route before setting off”, as debris could fall on train tracks and roads might be flooded.
Coastal areas of northern England, southern Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to be the most affected by the storm, but Wales and other parts of England could also experience strong gusts on Wednesday.
