According to car hire booking site Carrentals.co.uk the price of car rental has risen by an average of 30% across its 10 most popular destinations.
The buggest jump was in Turkey, which saw the cost of car rental rise by 76% for August, compared to August 2009, to £40 per day.
Gareth Robinson, Managing director at Carrentals.co.uk, said the hike in prices is down to low availability.
"With car hire providers having been unable to secure sufficient funding from banks to expand and replace their fleets, we have been seeing substantially inflated prices in some of the most popular destinations over the past 12 months," he said.
The second largest rise in the price of car hire was seen in the US, where the average daily rental price rose to £37, up 48%.
Spain and France also saw substantial rises for the month of August, up 40% and 37% respectively, to £33 and £35.
Whilt the UK had an average daily rental price of £37 for August 2010, among the highest, it has seen a comparitively low increase, only 8%, as it also had some of the highest prices in 2009.
