Ticket sales up 1.2% despite December disruptions
Some 9.2 million passengers travelled with Eurostar last year, 1.2% up on 2008.
The annual results released today also show a 1.7% increase year on year in ticket sales, which totalled a record £675.5m despite the economic climate and December disruptions.
"Whilst the economic environment remained challenging throughout the year, the second half of 2009 saw a ‘bottoming-out' in the business market," said Eurostar.
The London-Brussels route grew the most in 2009, with the number of passengers increasing by 6%, while Eurostar's Paris route experienced by1%.
The results of an independent review of the disruption to Eurostar services, between December 18 and 20, will be published at the end of January.
The investigation will focus on the causes of the disruption, contingency planning, the arrangements with Eurotunnel and the experience of passengers during the disruptions.
Eurostar has also apologised "unreservedly" for the problems, with a number of "operational and communication improvements" now in place, such as modifications to the trains so they can cope better with extreme winter weather.
