Car rental technology and distribution company, CarTrawler has launched an environmental initiative - WORLDWIDE 100 - where a tree is planted for every century of reservations made through the company”s reservation system.
The scheme will be run in conjunction with The Curlew Trust, a charity which plants hardwood trees, and CarTrawler says it will plant enough oak trees throughout 2008 through this initiative to fill an area the size of the Giants Stadium (home of two New York NFL teams, the Giants and the Jets).
”CarTrawler has long been involved with a number of environmental charities and organisations and supports the reduction of CO2 emissions though conservation projects,” said CarTrawler environmental officer, Audrey Myles. ”A formal CSR policy is a natural step for us.”
”It has always been our opinion that travel companies need to consider their carbon footprint keenly, actively seeking ways to work in harmony with the environment. As a company involved in travel distribution car rental this is even more relevant to us and we are keen to have a proactive environmental position.”
In addition, CarTrawler was awarded the inaugural ”Innovation Award” at the Travel Technology Show 2008 - held at Earls Court last week ” for its global car rental distribution technology.
”We faced some stiff competition, but in the end we are pleased that show attendees recognised our product as groundbreaking, flexible and a source of revenue generation for the travel industry,” said CarTrawler CEO Greg Turley.
