Eurostar has reported a 3% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers for 2010, due to a “continued recovery” in business travel.
The cross-Channel high-speed rail company also claimed a 12% jump in total revenues for the year, to £760 million.
Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar’s CEO, said: “The turnaround in the business market continued in the second half of the year.”
This is welcome news for bosses after the winter weather again caused severe disruptions to Eurostar’s services.
Snow in December caused cancellations and delays to Eurostar services, with scenes of passengers snaked round St Pancras again in the media.
Eurostar fared better than in December 2009, however, when passengers were stranded in the channel tunnel overnight, after five trains broke down.
In 2010 Eurostar won back the favour of the travel trade, after it played a key role in repatriating stranded travellers during the ash cloud crisis.
