Wizz Air has said it will add Austria as the 44th country in its network by establishing base operations at Vienna airport from June.
The low-cost airline will base one A320 aircraft in Vienna to start, followed by the deployment of two A321s in November. Wizz says it plans to operate 17 new routes from the Austrian capital in 2018.
Wizz claims the $331 million investment will see the carrier create 120 new direct jobs and will contribute to the local economy.
New routes from Vienna to Gdansk, Tuzla and Varna will begin in April, with Bari, Malta, Rome, Valencia and Tel Aviv starting in June. From November, Wizz will operate flights to Billund, Bergen, Dortmund, Kutaisi, Larnaca, Nis, Ohrid, Tenerife and Thessaloniki.
Wizz says it will offer 450,000 seats on 69 weekly flights from Vienna by the end of the year.
