Unite boss Len McCluskey has said the union could take action to ensure British Airways (BA) will not operate 100% of long-haul flights in the event of another cabin crew strike.
The union’s general secretary said that BA’s new CEO Keith Williams had re-stated in a letter to staff that a cabin crew strike would have no effect on the airline.
BA has previously said it will operate a full schedule at London City and London Gatwick, plus 100% of its Heathrow longhaul operation and “a substantial part” of the Heathrow shorthaul schedule.
In response, McCluskey said: “How he can say that, I don’t know. He has no way of knowing what weird and wondrous initiatives we might take should we engage in industrial action.”
He said Williams’ thinking was “outmoded” and called on the new head of BA to meet with Unite.
The union has started a new ballot of its cabin crew members on whether they are willing to strike, which is due to close on March 28.
