Budget airline Wizz Air is to make its flights available through Amadeus’ GDS for the first time, as it targets more sales through travel management companies and other indirect channels.
The Hungary-based carrier will make its content available to users of the Amadeus Ticketless Access (ATLA) platform in “selected” markets, which are primarily in Europe and include the UK.
Amadeus described the deal with Wizz as a “landmark agreement” that would “significantly expand the airline’s reach” among TMCs and other travel agencies.
Silvia Mosquera, marketing and revenue officer at Wizz Air, said: “Making our content available for the first time through the Amadeus Travel Platform will enable Amadeus’ extensive network of travel sellers to access our fares and ancillaries, further improving the accessibility of our offers.”
ALTA is a solution within Amadeus’ GDS that enables agents to search, compare and book low-cost and “hybrid” airline flights within the same platform as content from full-service carriers.
Amadeus said that Wizz Air’s fares, bundles and ancillary services will be available through the platform.
“It will also make it easier for corporate travel buyers and business travellers to access Wizz Air’s competitive fares through the tools and channels they already use,” explained Amadeus in a statement.
Elena Avila, executive VP of travel distribution at Amadeus, added: “Travel sellers increasingly need access to a broader range of airline content through the workflows they use every day, while airlines are looking for efficient ways to extend their reach.
“The addition of Wizz Air content to the Amadeus Travel Platform expands choice for travel sellers, simplifies access to content in a fragmented distribution landscape, and supports Wizz Air’s ambition to grow its indirect distribution strategy.”
Wizz Air has previously agreed deals with other technology specialists, such as Atlas, Kyte and Travelfusion, to expand its distribution channels within the corporate travel sector.
Earlier this year, Wizz Air also introduced a new service, called Wizz Class, that allows travellers to reserve an adjacent middle seat “for more space and comfort”.
The airline’s move to sell through Amadeus’ platform comes after rival budget carrier Ryanair restarted its partnership with the Madrid-based tech firm in 2023 after a gap of six years.
