EasyJet has agreed a deal with satellite firm Starlink to offer onboard wifi for the first time on its fleet of around 350 aircraft.
The UK-based airline plans a “rapid rollout” of the wifi service on its Airbus A320s and A321s from the first half of 2027, with all aircraft set to be fitted with Starlink by early 2028. EasyJet has yet to confirm whether it will be offered for free or if passengers will have to pay for the service.
Starlink, which is part of Elon Musk’s SpaceX operation, has inked a series of deals with airlines over the past few years, including Lufthansa Group, IAG, Air France, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic and SAS.
Kenton Jarvis, easyJet’s CEO, said: “Innovation is in easyJet’s DNA and partnering with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high-speed internet connectivity onboard for the first time will not only further enhance the experience we provide millions of customers, but means we are offering more of the options both business and leisure travellers want when they choose who they fly with.”
Starlink’s “high speed” internet service allows passengers to stream and browse on their own devices during flights, as well as checking flight information and ordering onboard food and drinks.
EasyJet agreed to a £5.7 billion takeover by US private equity firm Apollo Global Management in August, with the acquisition due to be completed in the first quarter of 2027, subject to clearing regulatory hurdles in the UK and EU.
