Ryanair has announced an expansion at Birmingham Airport this winter, including the addition of five new routes from the UK airport.
The Irish budget carrier said it plans to add a ninth aircraft at Birmingham for the 2026-27 winter season, allowing the airline to launch routes to Copenhagen, Rome Fiumicino, Warsaw Modlin, Marrakesh and Tirana.
Ryanair is also increasing frequencies on seven existing routes from Birmingham this winter, including extra flights to Barcelona, Budapest and Poznan.
The carrier said that basing another aircraft at Birmingham would allow it to increase annual passenger traffic by 21 per cent to around 4 million passengers over the next 12 months.
Matt Hazelwood, chief commercial officer at Birmingham Airport, said that Ryanair’s new expansion was “a strong vote of confidence in both the airport and the wider region”.
“We are proud of our longstanding partnership and pleased to work together to deliver the destinations our customers are looking for, giving them even greater choice and connectivity while responding to the Midlands’ growing demand for air travel,” added Hazelwood.
Ryanair’s new routes from Birmingham will launch over the coming week, starting with Marrakesh on 21 October, followed by Rome Fiumicino and Warsaw Modlin on 23 October, Copenhagen on 25 October and Tirana on 28 October.
