Passengers aboard a Turkish Airlines flight have foiled an attempted hijacker, according to reports in Turkey.
A man claiming to have an explosive tried to enter the flight deck as the Boeing 737-800 descended into Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport.
Witnesses said the crazed passenger – who was wearing a ski mask – demanded pilots return to the Norwegian capital, Oslo, where the aircraft had taken off hours earlier.
A Turkish news agency reported that two male passengers wrestled the man to the floor, keeping him there until the plane landed.
Police arrested 40-year-old Cuma Yasar on arrival in Istanbul, but found no explosives. Officials discovered later that Yasar was likely to be suffering from a mental illness.
No one was hurt in the incident, and Turkish Airlines said its schedule was not disrupted.
