Third hub set up in WarsawTravelport GDS, owners of major CRSs Galileo and Worldspan, has opened its third hub in eastern Europe.
The North Eastern Europe hub in Warsaw will serve agents in Poland as well as the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
The opening this follows the establishment last year of similar hubs in Budapest, Hungary and Moscow, Russia.
The Warsaw office will be headed by Marcin Pilarski as regional manager.
The new expansion is part of Travelport's decision to invest millions of dollars in East Europe.
As part of its aim to increase its presence in the region, Travelport hosted its first travel distribution conference for airlines, agents and tour operators in Warsaw last week.
Niklas Andréen, Travelport GDS's managing director for Eastern Europe, said: "We take the view that the way forward in Eastern Europe is not to automatically try to impose the way things work in Western Europe, but to work on the ground with our customers to really help them to grow their businesses.
"In essence we are investing in recruiting regionally based teams who are dedicated to listening to our customers and understanding specific local market needs.
"We have enjoyed some significant successes in the region since announcing our investment here last year."
