Singapore Airlines has agreed to purchase up to 4,800 tonnes of "next-generation" sustainable aviation fuel from Project Beacon, Aether Fuels' new production facility in Singapore, the carrier announced on Wednesday (28 October).
The SAF will be produced from waste carbon feedstock, including biomethane and industrial waste gases, using Aether's proprietary Aether Aurora technology, according to the airline.
The deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028 and cover a three-year period. Singapore Airlines did not disclose the value of the deal.
Singapore Airlines chief sustainability officer Lee Wen Fen said: “Supporting the development and adoption of SAF, and securing future supplies, are integral to SIA’s ambition of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“We will continue to work with partners globally to scale SAF production, strengthen the aviation industry’s sustainability ecosystem and support the transition to more sustainable air travel,” she said in a statement.
