Travelport has secured a deal with British Airways and sister carrier Iberia to avoid the airlines £8 charge on GDS bookings.
Both airlines, which are part of IAG, imposed the £8 surcharge “per fare component” on GDS bookings from November 1.
But the deal with Travelport means that its clients will not have to pay the charge as long as they have a “private channel agreement”.
“Travelport has reached an agreement with British Airways and Iberia for distribution on Travelport’s platform to partners who have secured a private channel agreement,” said the technology firm in a statement.
Travelport is also currently on the development of NDC connections with airlines, which are another way of avoiding the airlines’ surcharges.
Paul Broughton, UK and Ireland managing director at Travelport, said: “We are confident that the evolving technology and commercial changes in airline distribution strengthen the value of our travel commerce platform as a dynamic aggregator working at unprecedented scale and speed and with unmatched reliability and cost.”
