Swiss International Air Lines is to move its operations in New York JFK from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 from 20 December this year.
The New York airport has been plagued with capacity problems as carriers look to increase movements, with some observers mooting the idea of reducing overall services.
”The number of takeoffs and landings at JFK has largely risen during the last 12 months,” said a Swiss statement, adding: ”The increase in movements has resulted in a slowdown in ground assistance for delayed flights for all airlines.
”Swiss has recorded significant delays during these past months and to improve the situation and, in the interest of everyone and particularly passengers, we will return to Terminal 4 to improve our punctuality and ground services.”
The airline is to develop new lounges in Terminal 4, for its business and first class passengers, as well as those in the Senator Miles&More programme.
First class customers will receive boarding cards directly in the lounge, while those travelling business class will be able to use a separate security lane.
