Alliance members to move to T1
Lufthansa will finally join fellow Star Alliance airlines in Heathrow's Terminal 1 next week, with four other Star carriers also making the move this month.
Lufthansa's relocation to T1 was delayed last year due to the chaotic opening of Terminal 5, but the carrier will now move operations from T2 to the refurbished T1 on Tuesday June 16.
Around £100m has been spent revamping what is gradually becoming the Star Alliance terminal at Heathrow. The new Star Alliance-branded check-in area in zone K offers 17 desks, 12 self-service machines, and six fast bag drop facilities. There is also a first class lobby and four check-in desks for premium passengers. Dedicated Star Alliance business and first class lounges were also opened last year.
Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss made the move to T1 earlier this week, with Austrian Airlines, TAP Portugal and Croatia Airlines also moving over this month, where they will join existing carriers Air New Zealand, Asiana Airlines, Bmi, Lot Polish Airlines, South African Airways, United Airlines and US Airways. The moves will leave the 22 members of Star Alliance split between Terminals 1 and 3.
