The new owner of Stansted has attracted its first new carrier to the Essex airport with Air Moldova set to switch from Gatwick later this month.
Stansted, which is now part of the Manchester Airports Group, said that Air Moldova will move its flights to Chisinau to Stansted from April 29.
The airline currently flies once a week from Gatwick to Chisinau but will increase this frequency to twice per week when it starts operating from Stansted. Flights will run on Friday and Monday.
Stansted managing director Andrew Harrison said: “When MAG took ownership of Stansted airport at the end of February we set out ambitious plans to attract new airlines and grow the range of destinations, so I’m delighted that Air Moldova is the first new airline to move their services to Stansted.
“Stansted has fantastic facilities and great on time performance. To build on this record, we have significant investment plans - including £40million to upgrade the terminal and security areas.”
