Heavy snow forced Edinburgh and Newcastle airports to close this morning, with more closures expected tonight.
According to the Met Office, snow will spread southwards overnight, with the Midlands, the South East and parts of southern England possibly seeing 2 to 5 cm of snow.
Edinburgh airport’s runway is now partially opened, allowing some departures, but a number of airlines have cancelled or delayed flights this evening.
The snow has also resulted in some disruption at Newcastle airport.
In a statement on its website, the airport warned passengers to be prepared for changes to scheduled arrivals and departures, but said they should arrive as planned, allowing extra time for the journey.
Stansted Airport is also warning passengers to check with their airlines and allow for longer journeys to the airport as heavy snow is forecast for the region.
