Sky Work Airlines has started flying between London City airport and the capital of Switzerland.
The Swiss airline currently operates flights daily Sunday to Friday, and from September 5 will increase to 11 flights per week.
Currently, flight SX112 leaves London City airport at 7.55pm, arriving into Bern at 10.35pm.
From Bern, flight SX111 leaves at 6.45pm, arriving into London at 7.25pm.
After the expansion in the autumn, day returns will be possible with the addition of a morning flight.
Matthew Hall, chief commercial officer for London City Airport, said: “As expansion of London continues to moves towards the East of London, our Swiss passengers will see the demand for business travel connections increase.
“Sky Work is an experienced aviator and although this is their first entry point into London, we will be working closely with them to develop the relationship further.”
The Swiss carrier is also adding flights from Bern to Rome, Vienna and Milan from September 5, with Madrid, Belgrade, Budapest and Amsterdam to follow in October.
Tomislav Lang, Sky Work’s CEO, said Bern Airport has never seen an expansion on this scale.
“The availability of flights used to be somewhat limited, now we are bringing 12 regular, year round, routes, plus seasonal summer destinations,” he said.
“As the home base carrier of Bern Airport we are very pleased to be making a significant contribution to the development of Bern and offer our clients a real alternative to Basel and Zurich.”
