Load factor down by 9.9%
SAS today (April 7) reported a 16.7% drop in passenger traffic for March compared with the same month in 2008.
The loss making airline also said that its load factor for the month was down 9.9% to 64.5%.
Since March 2008, SAS, which is partly owned by the governments of Sweden, Denmark and Norway, has cut capacity by 3.9%.
The airline said it had more cuts in the pipeline to cope with lower demand.
The plans include a cut of a €373m (SEK 4bn), further cuts in capacity of 18% this year and six airlines to be taken out of service this month.
SAS said it long haul routes were most affected by a drop in demand of 24.2%.
Traffic on its short haul services fell by 16.2%, mostly from Denmark caused by capacity cuts.
It said intra-Scandinavian traffic fell by 8.3%.
