Write down of €197m on Spanair crash
The Scandinavian carrier said the new figures included a write down of goodwill on its Spanair operation after one of its planes crashed after take off, killing 154 passengers and crew.
The carrier, jointly owned by the Norwegian, Danish and Swedish governments, said its earning for the three month periods from July to September fell from SEK 553m (€55.7m) in the same period in 2007 to SEK101m (€10.2m).
It also reported a drop of 5.4% in passengers carried to 9.8m.
The airline blamed economic trends which had affected the behaviour of business travellers and the high oil prices for the fall in earnings.
Mr Mats Jansson, the ceo, said the result was "not satisfactory but nonetheless positive on an operative level."
He added: "We are now experiencing a three-dimensional crisis. The financial crisis has come on top of the crisis in the industry and strengthens the negative economic trend.
"In addition to this, we have our own SAS-specific problems and challenges that we are now addressing by bringing forward the remaining S11 measures."
