Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is to phase out its older MD80 and Boeing 737 Classic aircraft, replacing them with leased A320 and next-generation B737s.
In a release the carrier said that it has signed an agreement to lease five new B737-800 aircraft from GECAS, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding to lease 12 B737-700s.
In addition SAS says it will replace its MD80 fleet with Airbus A320 aircraft between 2012 and 2016.
The carrier's president and CEO Rickard Gustafson said that the fleet renewal would "reduce complexity and improve our environmental performance".
