Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) has started a four-times weekly service to Melbourne from its Brunei hub.
The new route, served using a Boeing 777 aircraft, adds a third destination to RBA’s network – the airline also flies to Perth and Brisbane.
RBA now flies 14 times weekly from Brunei International airport to three cities in Australia.
Royal Brunei Airlines’ executive VP of commercial and planning, Riaz Moiz, said: “The addition of Melbourne is another positive step towards establishing Brunei as a competitive hub in the Asia Pacific region.”
Moiz said there was demand for seats to Melbourne from the UK, but RBA also hoped to grow Brunei’s popularity as a stop-over destination.
From London, the airline flies to the Brunei capital of Bandar Seri Bagawan via Dubai.
For passengers travelling from Heathrow airport this would mean two stops en route to Melbourne – Dubai and Brunei.
