The site has been designed to utilise the device”s touch screen technology, and is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere according to the airline.
Currently Qantas customers can view timetables, lounge information and contact details, with Jetstar, the group”s budget carrier, also offering fare information and general airport information.
Chief information officer Jamila Gordon said: "Qantas is the only airline to incorporate an accessibility function that works like the phone itself."
The site”s functionality will be extended over time to include a comprehensive range of services such as flight booking, seat selection and online check-in, explained Ms Gordon.
”Qantas Group customers will eventually be able to arrange their whole travel experience using the iPhone,” she added.
Part of the airline”s broader mobile strategy, the service will later be made available to users of other mobile devices, such as BlackBerrys and smartphones.
The new mobile site can be accessed at qantas.com/mobile. For more information visit www.qantas.com.
