Low-cost carriers Norwegian and Jetblue have announced plans to form an interline agreement that would see passengers able to book flights from Europe to destinations across the US.
Under the plans, customers would be able to book transatlantic services and connecting flights to points within the US in one transaction, with the airlines hoping to launch the partnership for the summer 2020 season.
According to Norwegian, the agreement would connect more than 60 US and nearly 40 Caribbean and Latin American cities to its network via JFK, Boston and Fort Lauderdale airports. The carrier currently offers more than 20 non-stop routes to the three hubs from Europe.
Norwegian’s acting CEO Geir Karlsen said: “We are very excited to partner with Jetblue, as this will make international travel even smoother and more available for our customers. Jetblue is the largest airline at several of our key gateways in the United States... and this partnership will create a plethora of new route connections for customers on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Jetblue CEO Robin Hayes added: “This new agreement with Norwegian seamlessly connects Jetblue’s robust network throughout the US, Caribbean and Latin America with the exciting European destinations on our new partner’s route map. Norwegian shares our belief that customers benefit when we can bring competition and low fares to the transatlantic market currently dominated by joint ventures, legacy alliances and sky-high ticket prices.”
The partnership follows Jetblue’s announcement that it plans to launch its own flights from New York and Boston to London from 2021 using the new Airbus A321LR long-range narrow-body aircraft.
