Norwegian, which claims to be Scandinavia”s largest low fares airline, is to operate into Gatwick for the first time this coming winter season. Two new routes will be introduced, Oslo and Stavanger.
Oslo, capital of Norway, will be served daily (except Saturday), while Stavanger wins four weekly flights ” Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The airline”s Stavanger addition to its UK operation means it will compete with Star Alliance partners bmi and SAS, that offer a single codeshare flight each out of Heathrow, in effect a twice-daily operation.
Norwegian director network and revenue, Daniel Skjeldam, said: ”Stavanger has a lot to offer the visitors, including a beautiful old harbour with restaurants and cafes and many inner city lakes which are popular recreational areas. Stavanger is only a short boat trip away from Norway”s most famous fjords and coastal scenery."
”For the business traveller, it is important to know that Stavanger is the oil capital of Norway, with many international companies present.” From Gatwick, both British Airways (BA) and Continental Airlines have twice-daily services to Houston, considered to be the oil capital of the world.
Norwegian”s main UK operation is centrered at Stansted from where it flies to Bergen; Kristiansand; both Oslo airports, Gardermoen and Rygge; Stavanger and Trondheim. Troms” will be added from Saturday 8 December, with a twice-weekly service.
