Start-up carrier Global Airlines has purchased its first A380 superjumbo as it aims to launch transatlantic flights next year.
Global Airlines said it planned to launch flights between the UK and North America by spring 2024 but has not yet given details about its routes. Although media reports suggest it is looking to operate initially from London Gatwick airport to New York and Los Angeles.
The airline, which has acquired the A380 from Doric Aviation, plans to offer three cabins on its aircraft: economy, business and first classes. Global Airlines said it expected to add three more superjumbos to its initial fleet in the “coming months”.
The new carrier's parent company is leisure accommodation platform Holiday Swap.
James Asquith, CEO and founder of Global Airlines, said: “Our aspiration is to be the best way to fly, and the A380, with its unmatched levels of space, comfort and service, will be absolutely central to achieving that vision.
“The purchase of our first aircraft demonstrates that we are well on the way to launching Global. The next step is to overhaul and refit the aircraft to our high specification, providing our customers with the best experience in the sky today.
“Acquiring our aircraft rather than leasing showcases our commitment to financial security and resilience from day one.”
Global Airlines has not given details about the price paid for its first A380. The airline plans to formally launch this summer when it will give details about its services, industry partnerships and route network.
