After re-opening Terminals 2 and 3 in July, Manchester
airport announced last week that it will again consolidate operations and close
Terminal 2 from 2 September until further notice.
The international airport said it had made the decision
based on constant reviews of its operations, which have been impacted by the
coronavirus pandemic. With the government re-introducing quarantine requirements
for several popular holiday destinations since announcing a list of travel
corridors in July, the airport is likely to suffer from a slower-than-expected
recovery.
In a statement, Manchester airport’s managing director Karen
Smart said: “Having re-opened Terminals 2 and 3 in July, we have
continued to monitor the travel patterns of our airlines and passengers in
order to adapt our operations accordingly.
“All such decisions are driven by our commitment to deliver
the best possible airport experience for customers, colleagues and our airline
and retail partners.”
From 2 September, all passengers due to fly from Terminal 2
will need to check with their airline which terminal their flight has been
moved to. The closure will also affect the terminal’s car parks, but passengers
with a pre-existing booking will be able to transfer to an alternative car
park.
