Lufthansa is to boost its long-haul network to Southeast Asia with the reintroduction of flights from Frankfurt to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
The German carrier, which has not operated services to the Malaysian capital since 2016, will restart the route on 25 October. Lufthansa will operate five flights per week on the year-round route, with services flying every day except on Tuesday and Thursday.
The airline said it would use Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, fitted with its Allegris onboard cabins on the Frankfurt-Kuala Lumpur route. These aircraft offer a total of 287 seats across three classes – economy, premium economy and business.
In a statement, Lufthansa said that more than 700 German companies had operations in Malaysia and it saw “significant growth potential in the region and is specifically focusing on the development of this destination”.
Lufthansa added that it will be the only airline within Lufthansa Group’s home markets – Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy – to operate non-stop flights to Malaysia when the route begins in October. The group’s airlines already fly to Bangkok, Singapore and Phuket in the Southeast Asia region.
