Lufthansa Airlines has announced plans for a major cabin upgrade for its fleet of Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft.
The German carrier said that its eight A380s, which are currently based at Munich Airport, would start being retrofitted with new seats in business class from this month and will be available onboard for passengers from April.
The seats, manufactured by Thompson, will offer a seat width of 58cm and a bed length of “at least” two metres. They will all feature direct aisle access, as well as Bluetooth connectivity and flexible partitions.
Heiko Reitz, Munich hub manager at Lufthansa Airlines, said: “The retrofit underscores our commitment to providing a top-flight experience on the long-haul aircraft that is so popular with our customers.
“The new premium seats offer more privacy and significantly more comfort than before. We look forward to offering our passengers this enhanced travel experience in business class starting in April.”
Lufthansa’s refitted A380s will feature 68 new seats in business class, alongside first class, premium economy and economy cabins. The airline said that all eight A380s would be fully retrofitted by the middle of 2027. The A380 is the largest aircraft in Lufthansa’s fleet.
Last year, the airline began introducing its new Allegris cabins on services from Frankfurt after fitting them on Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Lufthansa initially launched Allegris onboard Airbus A350s on routes from Munich in May 2024.
