Pay talks with flight attendants break down
Lufthansa has been threatened with strikes over the next few days after pay talks with the union representing flight attendants broke down.
The Independent Flight Attendant Organisation (UFO) ended talks with the Garman carrier after rejecting a 10% increase in wages and benefits.
The union, which represents 16,000 workers at Lufthansa, has demanded a 15% rise.
Lufthansa has called on UFO to return to the negotiating table and face "economic realities."
Reuters reported that passenger numbers on the German airline had dropped since the economic turndown began to bite.
It fears a series of lightening strikes could hit customer confidence in the carrier.
A spokeswoman for Lufthansa said: "Obviously, we always try to reduce the impact on passengers."
