Lufthansa has cancelled more than 500 flights on Thursday (March 21) as workers stage a strike over a pay dispute with the company.
The German airline said that it had cancelled domestic and short-haul services as a result of the industrial action scheduled to be held by the Verdi union. Lufthansa said long-haul flights were “expected to operate on time”.
The company said in a statement: “Due to announced strikes of Lufthansa staff at the airports Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne as well as several other locations on March 21 between 05.00 and 12.00, Lufthansa will cancel most of its domestic and short-haul flights.
“Lufthansa regrets any inconvenience to Lufthansa passengers caused by the threatened strike measures by the Verdi union and will do its utmost to minimise impacts on passengers. Passenger support and service has paramount priority.”
