Jet2.com, the Leeds Bradford Airport budget airline, has carried its ten millionth passenger. Compared with some of the major so-called low-fare carriers the figure is not outstanding, but nevertheless is still an important milestone for the airline, which started flights nearly five years ago as a spin-off from the successful cargo operator Channel Express.
Over a four-year period, Jet2.com has carried the equivalent of the entire population of Hungary or the Czech Republic on its burgeoning routes across Europe.
There are currently 39 sun, city and ski destinations on offer, while Jet2.com”s bases now include Manchester, Belfast International, Blackpool, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
Jet2.com boss Philip Meeson, said: ”Since starting more than four years ago, we have always strived to provide the best service at the lowest possible fares and reaching this landmark number so quickly is testament that our passengers agree.”
Jet2.com has also announced a significant increase in its services to a variety of both business and leisure destinations.
Hamburg (L”beck) starts on Thursday 1 May, at four times weekly with Madrid following the next day at the same frequency. On the Saturday, a weekly flight to Sardinia (Olbia) is introduced. Sunday 4 May sees Cyprus (Paphos) coming on line twice-weekly.
Later in the month Crete (Heraklion), is introduced on Tuesday 20 May, once a week, Avignon in central France from the following Thursday with three weekly flights. Jersey starts 24 May, three times per week and finally, on the same day La Rochelle ” just once-weekly.
In addition, flights to Geneva and Lanzarote will also operate on a year-round basis and Leeds Bradford to Paris will increase to a twice-daily service. Flights to Belfast International will also increase from two to three times a day and the single Toulouse operation is doubled to twice weekly.
