A revival in business travel has put London City airport on course for its busiest month since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago.
The east London airport said passenger numbers in March had increased by 40 per cent since February, with the share of business traffic rising to 46 per cent – the same level as during 2019 – thanks to “strong” growth for corporate-orientated routes to Edinburgh, Zurich, Amsterdam and Dublin.
London City is being further boosted by the start of new BA CityFlyer routes this month to Milan Malpensa and Luxembourg, plus the restart of services to Rotterdam and Nice.
New Italian carrier ITA Airways will also be starting flight from the airport to Milan Linate on 28 March.
London City’s network for summer 2022 will see flights to 36 destinations, including around 80 per cent of 2019’s routes.
The airport's head of aviation Anne Doyere said: “We are delighted to see key routes and strong passenger growth returning to London City. The demand from customers has given us real confidence heading into the summer this year.
“The UK government’s removal of all remaining travel restrictions, including the complicated passenger locator form and all testing requirements, is hugely welcome news for our passengers and will make travel easier again.”
