LAN Peru, part of the LAN Group and a member of the oneworld alliance, will introduce a three-times weekly non-stop flight from Lima to Madrid on 7 August.
Iberia and AirComet already fly the route, the latter a Spanish airline founded in 1997, initially as a charter carrier and now expanding into scheduled services.
The new flights will operate between Lima and Madrid on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, departing Jorge Ch”vez Airport at 16:50 arriving in the Spanish capital at 11:30 the next day. From Madrid, departures are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 13:40, with an early evening arrival in Lima of 19:15 (local times).
LAN Peru general manager, Juan Luis Kruger, emphasised the importance of the new route. "Since beginning our operations eight years ago, we have worked hard to offer our passengers and cargo clients an excellent service, while contributing to the development of the national air transportation industry by connecting Peru with the rest of the world.”
With the introduction of flights to Europe, LAN Peru adds a new international destination to its current route network connecting Peru with the rest of the region and North America: Bogot”, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Guayaquil, Lima, Los Angeles, Mexico, Miami, New York, Quito, Santiago, Sao Paulo, and most recently La Paz and Santa Cruz in Bolivia. The airline serves 12 destinations within Peru.
Lima has a population of 7m with temperatures varying from mild to warm at an average of 18 C to 19 C (60-65 F).
Lan Chile, the original LAN airline, flies on a daily basis to both Frankfurt and Madrid.
An alternative routing to Lima from London is possible via Miami, with American Airlines and LAN Peru offering daily services.
